Teach Nursery Class

At Kabellerge, volunteers get a chance to join and teach or help at our nursery class in the following areas: Math/Counting, English (reading and speaking), arts, sience, different games and sports!

Volunteers will also have a chance to learn swahili language, songs and some African sports and games during the class sessions! For more information...

Teach Evening Classes for Youths

Our school project is based in a village, where most of the youths attend public schools for primary and/or secondary education. And as in most African public school, the level of education offered is low - to - average, so most of the students look for some extra classes out of the government education system.

Here you can also help out in subjects like Math, English, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Geography and learn swahili language in parallel. For more information...

Fundraising, Farm Work, Construction, Cooking...

If teaching is not of interest to you or not your strength, you can help us by raising funds for one of our projects or help out with some manual works, like construction and farming. For more information...

What we offer

If you are considering becoming a part of our project as a volunteer on site this is what you should know:

Accommodation

In 2019 we were able to build a guest room on school premisses for our volunteers, which means that you don‘t have to pay for accommodation, but you have to help with the chores. This way you will get the chance to learn the local language, cook and try traditional food, fetch water and other African chores since you will be part of the living process.

However if you are not used to the rural conditions at our school (for which you should be prepared) we can accommodate you at a host family in the close by town Sengerema (approx. 5 km). The hosts speak good English, but you will have to pay for the transport costs to and from the village, which is approx. $2.5 USD per day on a local motorbike.

Food

Most of Africans get three meals per day: Breakfast, Lunch and Supper.

For breakfast families mostly serve porridge / tea with some cookies or a slice of bread. At the project, we usually serve porridge at around 9:30 - 10:00 am.

For lunch Tanzanians eat Ugali - a common traditional dish which we serve with either fish / dagaa (small fishes) or meat, or some vegetables like cabbages or spinach. Lunch time can be from around 12 pm to 2 pm (depending on one's timetable).

For dinner families usually eat rice with beans or fish or meat. But sometimes also Ugali with one of the sources above. Supper is usually from 8 pm to around 10 pm.

A contribution of $5 USD per day is expected from you to cover the expenses.

Free Time Activities

Village Activities:

In your spare time you can hang around, meet local people and play with the kids from the village or help with gardening, construction etc.

Mwanza & Lake Victoria:

You can also go to the city of Mwanza (only 2h away) and visit the biggest lake in Africa and the 3d biggest in the world - lake Victoria.

Safari in Serengeti National Park:

Mwanza is also the nearest town to the Serengeti National Park, from where you can go on a Safari with many different companies. Is you are looking for low budget safari we can connect you to a local tour guide, who organizes low budget safaris starting from $700 USD.

Our volunteers

Our volunteers come from different countries, with a different background, education and age, but the same passion for social work:

Tanya Simova

Incredible, moving, truthful and unforgettable rural African experience!

Why did I decide to work with Al? Because he is someone, who believes in dreams, positive thinking and the power of encouragement! As soon as I saw his approach to the kids and heard his ideas, I knew this is a person with passion and a person, who can make a difference!
